SYDNEY, Australia - Stock markets across Asia rose on Friday.
The Nikkei 225 jumped 170.61 points or 0.74% to 23,312.16.
The Australian All Ordinaries rose 58.10 points or 0.85% to 6,898.90.
The Hang Seng in Hong Kong was little changed, adding 2.97 points or 0.01% to 26,326.66.
China's Shanghai composite, going against the trend, retreated 18.53 points or 0.64% to 2,891.34.
The euro rose slightly to 1.1022. The British pound was a fraction higher in Asia on Friday, last trading at 1.2876.
The Swiss franc firmed to 0.9894. The Japanese yen was steady at 108.58.
The Australian dollar was a tad stronger at 0.6791, as was the Canadian dollar at 1.3227. The New Zelaand dollar edged up to 0.6384.
Overnight on Wall Street, the Standard and Poor's 500 barely moved, closing just 0.34 of a point or 0.01% higher at 3,094.38.
The Dow Jones industrials lost 22.08 points or 0.08% to close Thursday at 27,761.51.
The Nasdaq Composite retreated 8.02 points or 0.09% to 8,474.08.
