The widespread use of AI essay writers by numerous students for writing their papers is already undermining the US education system. Essay writing services like Essay Tigers have lost their status as the primary threat to academia. And today we face a new and more dangerous threat.
Unlike humans, AI chatbots are quicker as they can generate new essays in a few seconds. These tools are capable of crafting all types of academic and non-academic writing pieces. So, it's not surprising that many students are using them for writing. However, it's becoming glaring that these tools have certain negative impacts on the US education system.
This crucial point was noted recently when some writing experts discussed the pros and cons of AI writing tools for students. One of these professionals noted that "AI has been in existence for several years, but its application has increased during the last year. The availability of ChatGPT and other Large Language Model tools has made it easy for students to generate research papers, lab reports, theses, college essays, and case studies."
"Reliance on AI has made lots of students lazy as they don't spend time researching and crafting essays from scratch. Generally, students require exceptional thinking power to write high-quality essays. Unluckily, the use of AI essay writers has decreased the thinking ability of numerous students as they depend completely on the AI tools to craft papers." he concluded.
Besides, AI writing tools don't have the emotional intelligence required to write many academic papers. These tools don't think like humans and may not be able to pass across their messages accurately. Therefore, relying on them to write essays may affect effective communication.
These problems have numerous ripple effects on the US education system as there's a significant reduction in the quality of the essay many students are submitting.
An educator said, "While we currently don't know the extent of the adverse effects of using AI essay writers, we believe that they undermine the US education system. Even if students get assistance from these AI tools when writing essays, they must understand how to use them without compromising the overall quality of their education."
