People have different views of leadership. For some, it is a call to serve. For others, it is an opportunity to influence and impact people in an inspiring manner. Leadership coach Katrina Summers believes it is all of these things and more. Being mentored to become a leader also means being prepared to make the necessary sacrifices in order to develop the needed discipline to get things done, lead people, and make wise decisions to create success. For her, being a leader means being intentional and living life purposefully.
As a passionate leadership coach, Summers is committed and extremely mindful in doing her one-on-one sessions. She wants each person to savor the learning experience and believe that success is possible when someone decides to unlearn unhealthy habits and practices from the past. As a coach, she cheers her clients on and stands with them through the good and the bad times. She does not simply observe from afar; she is immersed in the leadership experience of her clients. Doing this differentiates her greatly from other leadership mentors as she adds the personal touch that boosts her clients' self-esteem and confidence.
"Don't give up on yourself or others you lead," Summers explains. "Leading people starts within and believing in ourselves, being intentional and building trust with those around us. Owning your story, being proud of what you stand for, and empowering others to be the best versions of themselves will build a strong and kick-ass team with bold results," Summers shares.
Authenticity is something that Summers believes is important in building up a leader. She wants to help people remain true to themselves while highlighting their leadership skills. This also means being able to accept and embrace their flaws and weaknesses aside from their assets and strengths. Doing so, she believes, does not make someone less of a leader. Instead, it builds humility and strength of character.
Summers was inspired to develop her brand when she saw a lot of people around her crumble as a result of poor leadership during the pandemic. She felt helpless, but she also knew she could not just sit back and watch peoples' lives go down the drain. Without thinking twice, she decided to pursue her long-time dream of developing her own leadership business, a movement that prioritizes the value of people more than profit. Understanding that everything rises and falls on leadership, she made a decision to step out of her comfort zone and teach people how to live their best lives by being leaders of integrity.
Looking ahead, there is nothing more that Summers wants to do than to see countless lives change and experience success through her mentoring program. She firmly believes that mentorship is an instrumental learning tool in making the most of any situation and becoming an effective leader. The mentorship needs to begin now while so many young people and professionals are experiencing life-altering events throughout the world. This is the best time to sharpen their skills, enhance their compassion, empower them, and build their confidence so that they can one day impart the same learnings to others.
